Camp Sheldrake is an outdoor adventure residential summer camp for boys and girls aged 5 – 17 years located at Bartibog, Miramichi, NB,

Camp Sheldrake focuses on building confidence, trust and social consciousness in youth through its daily programs.

Camp Sheldrake staff are a committed group of individuals who work together all summer long to make each camper’s experience a special one:

  • Two Counselors per cabin group are responsible for the well-being and direct supervision of their campers. They also lead and plan activities throughout the week. One head counsellor is a veteran staff members who provides important leadership and personal guidance for the other counsellors.
  • Our Kitchen Staff prepare and cook delicious and healthy meals for our campers.
  • One Kitchen Helper helps out preparing meals and cleaning dishes in the kitchen.
  • One Health and Wellness Coordinator resides in our main hall, Dempsey, where s/he is able to give necessary medications, perform basic first aid, and act as liason between campers and their parents or guardians concerning any health-related issues that occur during the week.
  • Our Assistant & LIT (Leaders-in-Training) Director is responsible for assisting the director and all leaders-in-training sessions scheduled during the summer, including their organization and implementation.
  • Our Camp Director is responsible for ensuring the quality of Camp Sheldrake’s programs and is the direct supervisor for the other program staff.

Camp Director is responsible for ensuring the quality of Camp Sheldrake’s programs and is the direct supervisor for the other program staff

Duration:   May 15- August 26, 2017  (Part time hours in off season as directed, full time hours May – August)  Salary  $600/week

Primary Responsibilities

  • Define, plan and implement program ensuring that it reflects camp goals and objectives.
  • Organize and conduct pre-camp staff training sessions
  • Order and supervise ordering of supplies and equipment for camp and arrange proper distribution
  • Set and supervise opening and closing day procedures for staff and campers
  • Develop routines, schedules and procedures for camp operation
  • Assign staff and campers to cabins or groups
  • Supervise and evaluate all camp operations and program staff
  • Maintain and review records and evaluations of all programs, operations, staff and facilities pertaining    to the camp
  • Assist in defining and monitoring a crisis management plan, including emergency procedures
  • Organize and/or approve trips out of camp for program, supplies and crisis management
  • Monitor safety in all procedures as they pertain to the complete supervision of all the campers and staff   and implement corrective action as necessary
  • Help provide an atmosphere for developing good morale and well being among the camp family
  • Organize and plan school day/adult off season programs and arrange staffing
  • Other related duties as assigned
  • Lodging provided. Director required to live on site while camp is in operation. Meals are provided during this time.

Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instructions to staff and campers.
  • Ability to observe staff and camper behaviour, assess its’ appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety  regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate age behaviour management techniques
  • Post secondary education in teaching, recreation or equivalent
  • Superior leadership, organizational, communications and problem solving skills
  • Current CPR, First Aid Certification, Criminal Record certificate
  • Must have extensive experience in camp work, counselling, teaching ad mediation with staff and campers
  • Ability to plan, implement and direct a program to reflect camp goals
  • Ability to train, lead and evaluate a staff team
  • Proficiency in English and French would be an asset

Camp Counsellors (males and females)
Duration: June 25 – August 26, 2017

Qualifications:

  • must be a minimum of 18 years of age
  • must have Standard First Aid Certificate with CPR
  • must have a valid Criminal Record Check
  • the ideal candidates will be creative, energetic, resourceful, social and open minded.

Skills:

  • Leadership, responsible for groups up to 40 people (with support)
  • Capable of working alone and with a team
  • Experience with, or willing to learn more about, any or all of the following: Canoeing, Archery, Arts and Crafts, Drama, High Ropes and Low Ropes.
  • Lifeguarding (NLS or Bronze Cross) is an asset
  • French is an asset

Position Title:  Kitchen Cook
Duration: June 19 – August 31, 2017

Responsible to:   Chief Administration Officer while working closely with Camp Director

Qualifications

  • Graduate of Culinary College or equivalent years of experience
  • Experience in administration fo kitchen as a cook
  • Experience in mass food preparation for groups of upwards of 60 – 70 people of varied age groups in compliance with Canada Food Guide and Provincial Department of Health regulations

Responsibilities

  • Cleaning and Preparation of kitchen facilities
  • Preparation of menus as approved by NB Registered Dieticians and Camp Sheldrake’s approved Mango Program  and in accordance with Canada Food Guide
  • Delivery of food services to a summer camp for a period eight weeks (Sunday-Friday, incl.) for large groups of children/teens/adults
  • Occasional meal preparation for Off Season Programs & Group Rentals
  • Accommodating special dietary needs as required by campers and staff
  • Purchasing all food items from an approved source
  • Working within an approved budget
  • Maintaining records of purchases, menus, meal counts & inventory
  • Providing records for examination upon request
  • Preparation of work schedules and supervision of Assistant Cook
  • Working with Camp Director to establish age appropriate food portion delivery
  • Ensure a clean working area and maintain clean, functional and safe kitchen equipment
  • Attend weekly staff meetings for purpose of feedback and discussion of food delivery
  • Season opening & closing of kitchen including cleaning & shut down
  • Ensure strict compliance with Health & Safety rules & regulations as set forth by NB Department of Health and Workplace NB

Kitchen Helper: 8 – 9 weeks starting late June.

CAMP SHELDRAKE INC. is presently looking for a skilled Maintenance Worker to perform and upkeep tasks such as repairs and cleaning.  You will be responsible for applying basic fixes to equipment and building systems and ensuring  facilities are tidy and functional.

The ideal candidate will have experience and solid technical knowledge.  You must possess manual dexterity and physical stamina

RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform cleaning activities such as dusting, mopping, etc.
Perform minor fixes such as required
Checking control panels and electrical wiring
Install appliances and equipment if required
Doing yard upkeep by mowing lawn, removal of broken trees & branches, garbage disposal, etc
Conduct preventative maintenance checks
Inspect and troubleshoot equipment and systems
Check functionality of safety stems (alarms, etc.)
Report to maintenance manager for issues

REQUIREMENTS

Basic knowledge of plumbing and electrical systems
Experience in using hand and electrical tools
Very good communication and interpersonal skills
High school diploma or equivalent

DURATION : May through August, 2017

HOURS:  Max 35 / Week 

RATE OF PAY:  $12 / Hour
