Camp Sheldrake staff are a committed group of individuals
who work together all summer long to make each camper's experience a special one: - Two counsellors per cabin group are responsible for the well-being
and direct supervision of their campers. They also lead and plan activities throughout the week. One head counsellor
is a veteran staff members who provides important leadership and personal guidance for the other counsellors.
- One camp nurse
resides in our main hall, Dempsey, where s/he is able to give necessary medications, perform basic first aid, and act as liason
between campers and their parents or guardians concerning any health-related issues that occur during the week.
- Our assistant &
LIT (Leaders-in-Training) director is responsible for assisting the director and all leaders-in-training
sessions scheduled during the summer, including their organization and implementation.
- Our camp director is responsible for ensuring
the quality of Camp Sheldrake's programs and is the direct supervisor for the other program staff.
- Our chief administrative
officer along with the board of directors oversees all aspects of Camp Sheldrake's operations. To

Job Description
- Camp Sheldrake focuses
on building confidence, trust, and social consciousness in youth consistent with the teachings of Catholic Religion.
Qualifications
- University Graduate and/or student in Recreation, Social
Sciences, Education, Administration, Child Psychology or Health Discipline, or several years working in a camp setting.
- Experience in the education of Catholic Youth & Programming.
- Eligible for CPR, Standard First Aid, Canoe New Brunswick, Criminal Record Certification
- Ability to take responsibility for administration of camp in absence of CAO
- Work responsibly and independently
- Experience working with children/youth
- Experience
in facilitating groups and understanding group dynamics
- Leadership
skills.
- Positive attitude. Team player. Demonstrate
good judgement.
- Effective problem solving and decision making

General
Broad Responsibilities
- Working closely
with CAO, the Camp Director is responsible for coordinating the planning, implementation, and evaluation of Camp Sheldrake’s
Leadership Training Program and for the overall development, leadership and supervision of the summer Camp program and counselling
staff and campers. Acts as a positive role model for all campers, programs, and counselling staff. Develops and
maintains professional working relationships with campers, staff including Maintenance, Kitchen Manager, Health & Wellness,
parents, supporters, and visitors.
Specific
Responsibilities
- Meet with CAO, Kitchen
Manager, Maintenance and Health & Wellness on a weekly basis.
- Meet
with Counsellors on a daily basis and ensure completion of weekly evaluation and communication of concerns to appropriate
staff/department and follow up on issues to ensure satisfactory resolutions.
- Develop and submit weekly task lists for Counsellors (assign staff activities and other responsibilities as assigned
– scheduling for programming, supervision, etc.), Kitchen staff ( re special dietary needs and themed dinners)
- Help recruit, select, and train counselling staff, in conjunction with the appropriate
health professional staff as required.
- Help organize, implement
and evaluate pre-camp staff training.
- Assign staff and campers
to cabins
- Set and supervise opening and closing day procedures
for staff and campers (weekly).
- Develop routines, schedules
and procedures for camp operations
- Maintain and review records
and evaluations of all programs, operations, staff, and facilities pertaining to the camp and prepare an annual report on
these issues for submission to the CAO.
- Assist in defining
and monitoring crisis management plans including emergency procedures.
- Monitor safety and all procedures as they pertain to the complete supervision of all campers and staff and implement
corrective action as necessary.
- Coordinate and plan staff
meetings as required
- Order or supervise the ordering of supplies
and equipment for camp
- Help prepare and submit an evaluation
to each staff member by July 30th, and files a copy in the CAO’s office.
- Oversee the completion of staff tasks as per individual contracts
- Participate in health professional staff training as required
- Help review LIT evaluations with LIT Director and ensure that these evaluations have been delivered by September
30th.
- Ensure compliance wherever possible with NBCA Standards
- Ensures campers, staff, and volunteers comply with all site regulations as per
contracts.
- Ensure that evaluations of the camping season are
completed by all staff, volunteers, and counsellors and are compiled and circulated by September 30th or prior to camp evaluation
meeting, whichever comes first.
- Assist in maintaining a system
of supervision for all elements of the camp operation, with particular attention to the program and participants.
- Consult with CAO and Youth Programs regarding suggestion for improvement
of activities and general camp experience and include these in the Camp Report
- Be available for camper and counsellor consultation
- Dispense
all program supplies
- Develop and operate a meaningful program
in specific areas geared to the ages, interests and abilities of the campers.
- In addition to the close of camp, make evaluations and reports of the program
- Make sure that camper evaluation forms are completed at the end of each session
- Greet and record all visitors to camp site.
- Ensure
that an inventory of camping supplies, at the beginning and end of each camping season is completed.

- Camp Sheldrake is an outdoor-adventure residential summer camp for boys and girls
aged 5 - 17 years, located at Bartibog, New Brunswick (near Miramichi).
- Camp Sheldrake focuses on building confidence, trust, and
social consciousness in youth through its daily programs.

& lodging provided.
Minimum
Qualifications
- Superior
leadership, organizational, communication and problem solving skills.
- Current First Aid, CPR, & Criminal Record Certificates.
- Minimum of 2-3 years experience working with children in a recreational or educational setting.
- Experience working in a camp environment preferred.
- Certifications and teachables such as lifeguarding, swimming instruction, canoeing, archery, music, ropes, arts &
crafts, climbing & rappelling, etc. preferred. Special consideration will be given to applicants with Saltwater Lifeguarding
Certification.
- Ability to plan, implement and lead programs
which reflect camp goals
- Must be at least 17 years old.
- Proficiency in English & French an asset.
General Responsibilities - To plan, implement and lead programs which reflect the camp' goals, while also
caring for and supervising a group of 4 - 10 campers.
Specific
Responsibilities
- To be present at staff training events as assigned by the Director.
- To plan and lead programs on a daily basis.
- To participate
in and help lead any camp-wide or group activities which another staff member is leading.
- To welcome new campers and provide administrative assistance or arrival days.
- To provide a welcoming and inviting cabin atmosphere for all campers.
- To assure the mental and physical well-being of all campers, especially those in the counselor's own cabin.
- To attend to any medical situation and emergencies to seek the Director's and/or
Camp Nurse's assistance if needed, and to follow up with a written incident or accident report.
- To enforce camp rules and regulations.
- To discipline
any campers in an appropriate manner as needed.
- To document
and report any major behavioral problems or incidents with an incident report.
- To implement camp goals and philosophy into daily programming
- To act as a positive role model to campers.
- To assure
the safety of all activities and to regularly check the equipment and site used in order to prevent potentially hazardous
situations.
- To help provide an atmosphere for developing good
morale and wellbeing among the camp family.
- To provide weekly
feedback at the end of each session meeting on Fridays.
- To
be responsible for the cleanliness of his/her cabin throughout the camp sessions.
- To act as "Rounds" counselor when scheduled
- Responsible
for other duties as assigned by Camp Director.
